The installation is an oversized bargraph out of 20 floodlights. This surreal sound level meter was built up in the passageway next the Volkshaus in Jena and transformed for four weeks the sounds of the people into light levels. This work, titled “Public Opinion”, invited the spectator to interact with his own personality in an otherwise anonymous public space. Schiller´s “Stürmer und Dränger” got their postmodern equivalent in this interactive installation. This work is both attracting and irritating: the freedom to control by your own the amount of light can end in an amazing experience as well as an offensive dazzling light. The passant has the possibility to activate this installation in a playful way, but he also maybe feels uncomfortable and observed by this unusual apparatus.This installation not only generates a direct corporal reflection in space but also questions the role of the individual in our society.

La opinión pública
Basado en una interpretación post moderna de la época literaria del “Sturm und Drang” los nuevos héroes urbanos son animados a interactuar con esta instalación, que consiste en un sobredimensionado medidor de niveles de sonidos surreal con 20 refl ectores.
Durante cuatro semanas esta maquina transformó el sonido de la gente en oscilaciones luminosas.
El trabajo titulado “La opinión pública” invitaba al visitante a interactuar con su propia personalidad en un espacio público que se caracteriza por su anonimato e indiferencia. La obra atraía e irritaba al mismo tiempo: la libertad de controlar por si mismo la cantidad de luz se transformaba en una experiencia fascinante que provocaba inquietudes pudiendo llegar a la luz cegante. La instalación no sólo creó un refl ejo corporal en el espacio sino cuestionó también la posición del individuo en nuestra sociedad.
