Mosquito Expressionism

5:23 min, FullHD, 2017

Around a lamp flying insects are a common phenomenon on summer nights. The scenery probably provokes an uneasy feeling for the spectator. On the one hand it is some kind of fascinating experience to see the insects flying over and over again around the light source, on the other, it is a deadly trap and a sad and disgusting spectacle observing them going insane.

“Mosquito Expressionism” focuses on this every night drama and provides these small insects a short time protagonism by drawing their actions on the canvas. The title refers to Jackson Pollock abstract expressionism paintings, where unconsciousness movements of the body ended in quite similar results.

Mosquito Movement was traced with an algorithm written in Processing and reinserted in the video.
